Dwight Fitzgerald was a long time Dunnellon, FL resident who loved to cycle and compete in triatholons. He was a 5 time IRON MAN competitor and loved his community and giving back. Dwight lost his life due to injuries he received after being hit from behind while riding on a Dunnellon road. We are having our 1st Annual Memorial Ride to honor him and his love of children and have chosen the Boys and Girls Club of Dunnellon as the benefit which is facing closure due to budget cuts. We need riders and would appreciate if you could share the ride with your club and any others. The ride will be held rain or shine on SATURDAY, OCTOBER 17TH and you can choose a 12, 33 or 65 mile ride thru Marion and Levy County scenic roads.

Constant attacks, but a shorter route than Tuesday.

This ride is for those who don't want to do the Hipp ride, because of inexperience or other reasons.  We will do 1.5 to 2 hrs.  Probably Hawthorne Rd. to 234 to 441 (Either Wacahoota or Prairie based on weather/time)

 Team Ride. No Drop. Helmet. Water. 

The Hipp ride is fast. Tuesdays are a bit more organized than Thursdays. The route is Hawthorne Rd to Angle Rd at which point there is a sprint that ends near the Pearl Country Store. Then the ride heads north on 441 and continues onto the Long Wacahoota route. Some of us choose to head all the way back on 441 after the sprint. Don't come on this ride if you have never done a group rotation, are not used to riding tempo, or are generally inexperienced. 

Location

Helmets are required on all GCC Rides. Expect mileage to be in the 50-70+ range with one rest stop. Routes are determined prior to the ride depending on which way the wind is blowing and who shows up. Routes are agreed upon by consensus the morning of and may change en route. Speed is consistent 20 + mph during the ride. With surges exceeding 25 mph (and sometimes 30 mph). A- Riders do respect all road safety rules, but do not respect a specific speed limit, especially after the rest stop.
